Fragmentations & Cohesions Exhibition
Departure Lounge is delighted to present its second exhibition in its new Luton Base. Fragmentations and Cohesions brings together four emergent contemporary artists Ben Hodson, Karolina Lebek, Michael Radford and Andrew Rickett.
Transition/Pãreja – an exhibition of Latvian printmakers
From the 26 April – 24 May 2012 there will be an exhibition of Latvian student and alumni work in The Gallery Space at the University in the Campus Centre at Park Square.
Rebecca Meanley – Drawn In
Rebecca Meanley, a Visual Art Practice lecturer, will show abstract paintings in her exhibition, ‘Drawn In’ which explores the relationship between the artist and the canvas.
Ben Hodson – The Re Show
Staff member Ben Hodson is taking part in an arts council funded exhibition called “The Re Show”. The Re… Show is a group show of 12 artists. The venue for the show is the ‘Street Dreams’ workshop in High Wycombe. Street Dreams is a charity that equips young people with life skills and provides them with personal development opportunities.
Sława Harasymowicz – Dispatches
Sława Harasymowicz, a London based artist and lecturer in the Division of Arts and Design will be opening Dispatches, on Tuesday, 1 November in London.
Sława said: “The show is called Dispatches because it relates to the idea of ‘dispatching’ memory, and information, whether authentic, or ‘assumed’. It is a narrative which offers no explanation. I think it is an interesting opportunity to show art in the middle of a major political institution’s building.”
Nigel Grimmer – Time’s Relentless Melt
Friends and family enter Nigel Grimmer’s photographic work through his continual reworking of the family album format. Disrupting our expectations of “traditional” family portraiture Grimmer obscures the identities of his models, protecting them from the viewer’s gaze; his family are pictured turning their backs to the camera, or masking themselves with a variety of disguises and props.
Masters students show at the Hat Factory
The MA Art & Design students are exhibiting at the Hat Factory gallery from the 12th of September, come see the graduates work.
Luton Textile Archeology
The Artist Sew n Sew invites you to a private view of an exhibition ” Luton Textile Archaeology ” in The Hat Factory, Gateway Gallery, Bute St , Luton. An installation of textiles, soft sculpture, relational art and photography on the theme of haptic, memory and association, made of vintage and contemporary, obsolescent and discarded textiles.
Iraq – The Next Step by Ben Hodson & Ian Rowlands
Staff member Ben Hodson and Luton based photographer Ian Rowlands have brought together an emotive exhibition at The Hat Factory throughout July 2011. This exhibition is part of an ongoing project in which they seek to challenge some of the stereo typical images we see coming out of Iraq. The artists present the nation’s history, with its savagery against humanity, but they also aim to look to the future with hope.

Pick Me Up
Illustration tutors, INK Illustration were recently invited to create a drawing workshop ‘With Draw’ as part of Pick Me Up 2011 at Somerset House, in London. The collective asked visitors to contribute their illustrations in response to INK’S drawings using their imagination, memory and observation to form a collaborative mural which took over the walls.
