BA(Hons) Illustration

Illustration is changing. The outlets for an illustrator are now more varied than ever. Increasingly illustrators are forging their own path, becoming designer/makers, book artists, printmakers, typographers and much more. It is this diverse and risk-taking approach to illustration that this course adheres to and nurtures. During the first and second year the course combines core illustration skills with shared projects with the animation and graphic design courses. This enables you to work in the field that is most relevant to your interests and strengths as well as encouraging cross- pollination of ideas and techniques between the subjects.

You will be introduced to printmaking, sequential illustration, stop motion animation, publishing and motion graphics among others. As the course develops Illustration students gradually become more autonomous leading to the 3rd year when you initiate both personal projects and take on industry briefs. This enables you to tackle commissioned and commercial briefs whilst developing your own voice as an artist and designer, encouraging you to become the author and take control of your creative practice.

All course lecturers are successful practicing illustrators and designers meaning you can be guaranteed a contemporary and relevant perspective on the profession. The unique combination of disciplines, coupled with a strong professional focus, means that you will become a multi-disciplined, entrepreneurial practitioner capable of negotiating your way through the new landscape of illustration.
