BA(Hons) Advertising Design

Advertising Design is a creatively lead strand of the Design for Communication cluster that looks critically at Advertising as part of the Graphic Design course. Students are based in the Division of Art and Design working on the Graphic Design course but also do units taught by the Department of Marketing. The course is a balanced combination between practical and theoretical aspects of design and marketing communications, founded on the development of practical skills in graphic design, illustration and new media and an appreciation of marketing and business.

In order to develop design solutions that communicate effectively with a target audience, designers and advertisers need a strong grounding in the principles of marketing. This course integrates graphic design practice with marketing and advertising theory to give you that grounding.

Students will develop transferable skills that are needed to work within creative advertising teams and solve design communication problems. You will also learn to communicate design ideas supported by your understanding of markets and branding.

You can expect to graduate from this course with a diverse skillset that will open up a wide variety of careers in the creative industries. You will also develop technical skills in drawing and lens-based media, software applications for 2D graphics, 3D modelling and motion graphics.

After graduating from this course you will be well placed to explore careers in design, marketing management and advertising, to name a few. The integrated nature of the course ensures that you have the skills for practical roles throughout the creative industries.
