Fashion Students first workshop in Alexon studios

During their first workshop in the first week of term, First Year Fashion Design and Textiles students painted directly onto a canvas using painting and textile techniques that were demonstrated to them. Once the canvas is dry the fashion students will remove the painting from it’s original context (as a painting on the wall) and begin to explore form and shape through folding, stretching and moving the canvas, analysing and recording how the fabric falls and acts when it is not supported by the wall in its traditional sense. Through drawing and photography students will begin to explore how their new form can become a garment, this will be followed by 3D experimentation on the stand (mannequin).

All first year Art and Design students will presesnt the outcomes of their first project in an exhibition at Alexon House in November.
