Break Out At The Rebel Zoo

Recently graduated MA student Anna Skopinska has turned her masters project into a real publication Grafik Rebel which was just launched in August in Warsaw. For the launch Anna, as part of her new studio, Rebel Zoo Studio put on an exhibition featuring Design For Communication’s Course Leader, Noel Douglas and typographer and designer Jonathan Barnbrook. The exhibition, called, Let Us Hear Your Voice was situated in a Train Station in Warsaw. The public everyday nature of the exhibition space fits with Grafik Rebel’s mission which is as a publication that sees itself as ‘an antidote to existing reality’ and aims to promote Social Design and Socially Engaged Graphic Design in Poland.

During the stay, Noel and Anna were interviewed by several Radio Stations, and thanks to the support of the British Council in Warsaw Noel also gave a talk about various forms of Creative Resistance and Social Design from the last decade in Galeria ZPP and post-show, held a photomontage workshop based on imagery taken from Financial magazines, on the themes of Crisis and Imagination, although everyone felt the workshops were too short so Anna will plan a longer one for Grafik Rebel issue 2!
