Students on the Fashion Design courses accredited by the University of Bedfordshire attended Paris Fashion Week to watch the fashion shows and explore the fashion industry close up. 20 students visited Paris at the beginning of March and enjoyed catwalk shows from famous fashion designers such as, Gareth Pugh, Guy Laroche, Thimister, Rochas, Anne Valerie Hash and Rick Owens. The Paris trip was organised as part of the students on-going design projects to help them understand how the fashion industry works and how trends emerge directly from the catwalk.
First Year BA (Hons) Fashion Design student Ashana Green explains “the best part of the trip was the fashion shows, I especially loved the Gareth Pugh show where I met lots of people in the fashion industry” and classmate Mary Adeyemi adds “the most inspirational show for me was Anne Valerie Hash which has really helped me with my current project, I felt privileged to be amongst people in the fashion industry and we have all really bonded as a group as a result of the whole experience”.
Beverley Bothwell, Course Leader for BA (Hons) Fashion Design said ‘It was a great trip and I think the students have learned a lot from seeing the fashion shows along with the fashion stores and exhibitions in Paris. It is a wonderful networking opportunity for all students wanting to work in fashion’.
The fashion trip is an annual event open to many of the students in the Division of Art and Design.
